Sabrina Foulks-Thomas, RN, CPM, LM, IBCLC, MMCHW, MHA, CPES
Founder | Midwife
For Sabrina, midwifery is both deeply professional and deeply personal.
She is a wife, mother of six, longtime homeschooling mom, nurse, midwife, and lactation consultant—and her own experiences with pregnancy, birth, and motherhood have deeply shaped the way she enters the birth space.
Her own birth story includes both hospital and home birth experiences, giving her a personal understanding of how different birth environments can feel and why having choices, information, and people you trust matters.
With more than 20 years of experience supporting families and over 1100+ births attended throughout her career, Sabrina brings a strong clinical foundation to out-of-hospital birth. She also holds the distinction of being the first African American Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) in Wisconsin.
But for Sabrina, good midwifery is about more than credentials or what a provider knows. It’s about listening. Knowing your family. Being honest. Laughing together. Making room for questions. And building the kind of relationship where you never feel like just another appointment.
Birth in Color is an extension of who she is—clinical when it needs to be, holistic where it makes sense, deeply relational, and centered around the individual family in front of her.

Stephanie Nelson, BSN, RN, CCRN-NICU, IBCLC, MMCHW
Postpartum Care Nurse
Stephanie is passionate about honoring matrescence—the powerful transformation into motherhood that unfolds not just physically, but also emotionally and spiritually. She believes that birth is most supported when it takes place in a space where the birthing person feels safe, comfortable, and undisturbed.
Out-of-hospital birth allows the natural rhythm of labor to emerge, supporting the body’s hormonal flow and letting physiologic birth unfold as nature intended. When free from unnecessary intervention, laboring mothers move instinctively and intuitively, guided by their body’s wisdom. Babies born in this environment often arrive with strong reflexes, reduced stress, and a readiness to feed and bond.
Stephanie values the sacred early moments between parent and baby—uninterrupted, skin-to-skin, and rooted in connection. She believes this gentle start lays the foundation for a thriving family, where trust, love, and confidence grow from the very first breath.

Ashley Fesconkin, BSN, RN, CMSRN, MMCHW
Postpartum Care Nurse
Ashley is ecstatic to offer out of hospital midwifery care because she values the right of individuals and families to make informed, empowered choices about their birth experiences. She believes birth is not just a clinical event, but a sacred, transformative moment—one that deserves to be honored with presence, compassion, and respect.
Out-of-hospital care can allow for a more personal, relationship-based model that supports families holistically. It gives space for birth to unfold naturally, in an environment where people feel safe, seen, and supported.
