BICM Postpartum Care Nurses
-
Jichell Lutz, BSN, RN, MMCHW
Joy and sarcasm is all me.
(she/her/hers)
Jichell is a first-generation immigrant from the Philippines who is deeply dedicated to serving families within the healthcare field. With over nine years of experience, her compassion, skill, and unwavering commitment shine through in every aspect of her care—particularly with mothers, premature infants, and newborns—leaving a meaningful and lasting impact on the families she supports.
A graduate of Concordia University Wisconsin, Jichell holds certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). She has always felt called to work with babies and their families, and her career reflects that calling. In addition to her role at Birth in Color Midwifery, Jichell works as a Neonatal ICU nurse, where she provides expert and tender care for premature and critically ill infants. She considers it a true honor to be entrusted with the care of these vulnerable little ones during such a delicate and crucial time.
Jichell’s passion for holistic, physiological birth began during her own pregnancy journey, when she chose to have an out-of-hospital birth through Birth in Color Midwifery. Her homebirth with her daughter was a transformative and empowering experience—one that solidified her love for community-centered, respectful birth care. Now, as a postpartum nurse, her mission is to ensure every family feels safe, supported, and respected as they transition into parenthood.
Outside of her professional life, Jichell cherishes time with her husband, Riley, their daughter, Vivian, and their two Boykin Spaniels, Hazel and Evie. She is honored to walk alongside families through the sacred postpartum period and looks forward to supporting them with empathy, strength, and compassion.

Stephanie Nelson, BSN, RN, MMCHW
Lets get it done.
(she/her/hers)
Stephanie recognized early on that how she chose to give birth would be transformative. As a dedicated nurse for 15 years, between pediatrics and NICU, she understands the significance of preserving the natural birth process to achieve unmedicated childbirth. This realization ignited her passion for empowering families who identified with home birth and that this could be a safe and joyful place for this journey.
Stephanie, an IBCLC, is dedicated to providing evidence-based, family-centered care during childbirth and the crucial early days of breastfeeding. With a strong background in caring for sick newborns, she reassures families working with Birth in Color Midwifery as the postpartum care nurse that home births can be an incredible experience with the proper support!
Aside from her professional aspirations, Stephanie is a devoted wife to Dave and proud mother of three wonderful children: Ian, Marie, and Brooke. Her heart is most at home under the open sky—whether it’s hiking wooded trails, setting up camp in their RV, or simply enjoying a quiet moment outdoors with her family.
A true animal lover, Stephanie finds joy in observing the world through her children’s eyes, embracing their curiosity and wonder. She cherishes the simple pleasures of life: reading a good book, sharing stories around the campfire, and creating lasting memories with her little family.
Stephanie’s passion for nature and exploration shines through in every adventure she undertakes, making her an inspiring presence in any community she joins.

Ashley Fesconkin, BSN, RN, CMSRN, MMCHW
Full of life and love.
(she/her/hers)
With eight years of nursing experience, Ashley brings a wealth of clinical expertise to her role as a postpartum nurse at Birth in Color Midwifery. Her background spans hospital-based care, including both bedside nursing and leadership roles, yet her passion lies in delivering care that embraces a holistic, patient-centered approach.
As a mother of six with personal experience in both hospital and home births, Ashley has a deep understanding of the wide range of emotions and experiences that accompany the birth journey. She is a strong advocate for empowering families to make informed medical decisions that align with their values, ensuring they feel supported, respected, and heard.
At Birth in Color Midwifery, Ashley is proud to offer compassionate and personalized care to families as they transition into life with a new baby. She is committed to walking alongside each family with empathy, knowledge, and unwavering support throughout their postpartum journey.
Beyond her professional life, Ashley is a proud, homeschooling mama of six. She and her husband share a lively home with their two dogs and love spending time outdoors—hiking, exploring new places, and soaking in the little joys of life together. When she’s not walking with her family, binging a good show, or getting lost in a great book, you’ll likely find her baking sourdough bread or cooking up something delicious for her crew.
Ashley’s dedication to nurturing families in both her personal and professional life is a beautiful match for our mission at BICM, and we’re honored to have her on the team.
We want to stand out.

"My experience with a postpartum care nurse was a dream. It made transitioning from pregnancy to postpartum to pediatric care seamless and simple- a time when all you want to focus on is baby, rest and healing, not managing multiple appointments with different offices and providers. I was like, “Yes, this is how it SHOULD be! This makes sense!” I felt seen as the mom-baby dyad versus a separation of the two. "
