"Sabrina has completely exceeded our expectations at Birth in Color Midwifery. As an "older" first-time mom, risks were assessed and addressed without feeling disrespected. Sabrina provided us with expert advice, information, and care in a humble, approachable fashion. We entirely trust Birth in Color, and I cannot recommend them enough.

Who do we serve? Great question! As Certified Professional Midwives and Certified Nurse Midwives , we serve a “low-risk” population when working with families out of the traditional hospital setting. We do a very thorough job of evaluating specific risk factors to keep birth outcomes safe. At your initial consultation, you will be provided with our scope of practice in great detail to alleviate any questions surrounding those who are candidates for out of hospital midwifery care.

Can we still receive a birth certificate and social security card if birthing out of the hospital? Even with a home birth through Birth in Color Midwifery, you can still receive a birth certificate and Social Security card for your baby. As licensed midwives, we provide the legal documentation needed to register your baby’s birth with the state—just as you would in a hospital. Your birth is at home, but your paperwork is official. Home birth does not mean missing out means doing your way, with everything you need included.

What if we would like to see a hospital provider and pursue midwifery care? Midwifery care is unique because it can offer as many faces of comfort as each family desires. We are so blessed to be affiliated with the Bridge Program, a collaborative effort that forges these two worlds together. We have the privilege of working with dedicated providers who understand and appreciate out-of-hospital midwifery care with no judgment.

What if I want the care of an out of hospital provider but still feel birthing in the hospital is the best option for me? There is no straight line to how one chooses their care. At Birth in Color Midwifery, we support your right to choose the birth setting that feels safest for you while still receiving midwifery care. If you prefer a hospital birth but want the personalized support of an out-of-hospital provider, we can offer prenatal and postpartum care while collaborating with your hospital team. You may also consider a hospital-based midwife or a doula for additional support. Our goal is to ensure you feel empowered, respected, and well-cared for, no matter where you choose to give birth.
This is a frequently asked question?
What differentiates a doula from a midwife? That is a common question that many interconnect the two, or think that they are the same thing. Both are helpful to each other but share completely different responsibilities. A doula acts as a support person for the birthing family emotionally, physically and mentally. The doula holds NO medical responsibility for the family and completes no clinical assessments of the mom and baby dyad. Birth in Color Midwifery always welcomes doula support to any family that desires that resource. Please don't hesitate to ask for any community resources if interested.
No Question is a Silly Question, Only the Question Not Asked.

Do we have to rent a tub if we desire a water birth? That is a very common question. Birth in Color Midwifery wants to create access to care, and we provide birth tubs for the families we serve. We do ask our families to purchase their own liner. If this is a barrier, we will provide a liner.

Do you accept Medicaid Insurance? Yes, yes, and yes! We want families to get the care they need, so we have made this choice and continue to promote our providers' acceptance of Medicaid insurance. We help you make sure your care is covered.

What is the difference between having a “team” approach to care compared to the typical stand-alone midwifery practice? At Birth in Color Midwifery, we believe that pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are journeys best supported by a strong, interconnected team. While the traditional model often centers around a single midwife, we are intentionally redefining the experience. We bring together midwives, nurses, and skilled support staff to create a circle of care that ensures you are never alone in your experience.
Our team approach reflects the truth that birth is not a solo event—it is a communal and deeply personal rite of passage. By surrounding you with a dedicated team, we are able to offer more continuous, responsive, and holistic care. Each member brings their own expertise, compassion, and presence, allowing us to support you physically, emotionally, and spiritually throughout your journey.
We are shifting the culture of midwifery to honor collaboration, deepen relationships, and build a model of care where your needs are met with abundance—not scarcity. In our vision, care is not tied to one person, but carried forward by a collective who know you, trust you, and walk beside you at every step.
